Shirebrook band is a 1st Section band since gaining promotion in 2012. "A tap-dancing conductor, an Hawaiian,grass skirted, hip swaying cornet section, band members in bright yellow ballet tutus and the whole band sobbing tearfully and dramatically are just some of the highlights of a typical SMWUB Brass Band concert. The band's expertise is not only confined to 'putting on a good show'. the quality and leadership of its Musical Director, Mark Wilcockson, have brought the band considerable success in major competitions in recent years, culminating in reaching the National Brass Band Finals of Great Britain in 2010 and 2012."
